How To Do A Symantec Virus Scan
The first thing I would recommend to begin cleaning your computer is to run a Symantec "Virus Detection" scan. There are a few steps to doing this but you can do it and it is well worth the effort and takes less than an hour. Read this whole page through before you begin. It may look like a lot to do but it is not that much and it really is easy. (You may want to print this page, and (mentally) check things off as you go. It also makes it easier to read, without having another Window opened.)
1. Close every other Window you have opened. This scan will only work using your Internet Explorer browser so make sure you are using it and click HERE
3. Click on the red "Start" button under "Virus Detection"
4. You should be on the End-User License Agreement (EULA) page now. Click the little dot for "Accept" and then click the "Next" button.
5. Now you should be on the "Privacy Policy" page. Click the little dot for "I Consent" and then click the "Next" button.
6. Now you should be on a page that says: "Downloading ActiveX Controls..." and a little box should pop up kinda quick and give you two options. "Install" and "Don't Install" Click "Install" and you should see the little dots running around on the computer (tower) and the words "Downloading ActiveX Controls..." beside it.
7. Now wait for about 3 or 4 minutes and the same box will pop up again giving you the same options. Click "Install".
8. Once you have clicked "Install" on the second pop up box the scan should start.
9. The scan will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete. It should scan anywhere from 35,000 to 75,000 files on your computer.
10. Once the scan is complete: If you see the word "SAFE" in big green letters then do the 'happy dance' (preferably nekky) and call me and I will get nekky and do the happy dance too! :-).
But if it says your computer is "INFECTED" in big red letters then right click on the window and when the "right-click menu" comes up click "Select All" to highlight the whole Window, then right click it again and click on "Copy", then click the link below and paste everything in your Notepad so you will know the location of viruses.
